where the magic happens: I sit in that chair by the window and work on my laptop;
as you'll see below, I need to get a sofa and rug and hang some artwork...
I also worked on a giant list of things I want to do in the relatively near future. I'm the kind of person who needs lists to survive. I can't get my house organized and cleaned unless I break it down into tiny spaces and list them out: kitchen counters, area by the window, bed (anyone else use theirs as a table?), bathroom sink, floors, etc. It may sound kind of ridiculous but it helps me to focus and not get overwhelmed by all there is to do. Plus, it's really fun to cross things off the list.
I was inspired to start another sort of list by blogger Jackie Jade, a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. The original idea comes from Mackenzie of Design Darling who describes the 101 in 1001 as the "happy medium" between a to-do list and a bucket list. I thought it sounded like a cool idea and am hoping it will help me concentrate on the things that are important to me and make better use of my free time.
So I have a little less than three years to get the following accomplished:
1.
2. Take a sewing class
3. Buy a piece of furniture at an estate sale
4.
5. Put drapes/shades up in all of the windows in my apartment
6. Go to an estate auction

yesterday's project
I'm thisclose to being able to cross "paint my bathroom and kitchen white" off the list - it's what I spent all of yesterday doing (made bearable because of this playlist)! I even skipped a Super Bowl party so I could get it done, and now I just need to do one final coat in the bathroom. Sometimes it feels good to just do it, ya know? Now I can really move forward with decorating my bathroom and kitchen, which is exciting because I desperately need to get some ideas out of my head. :)
I love these lists & have one myself. Best of luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ashley! :)
Deleteah so excited i helped to inspire you! i love the lamp in your living room - it's so fun (and i love gold!) good luck with your list - we need to paint soon too!!

Oh thank you - the lamp is from a vintage shop in SE Portland. It is the only thing in my apartment of that style but I absolutely love it haha.
DeleteAnd yes, I'm so glad I saw the list idea on your blog! :)
Haha what a wonderful idea! Love this. Feel like starting one myself :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and I hope that you have the best time ticking all of these off!

Thank you for your comment! It was actually pretty fun to write out the list because it made me excited about actually doing them in the future! I recommend that you make one yourself, even if it's a shorter version! :)
DeleteOh, I love your little corner! Looks very cozy, good light, and peaceful. :) I could definitely get a lot of reading done there.
ReplyDeleteI am the same way! I live by lists -- I always have a list of TO-DOs and Goals... on my phone and in countless journals. It makes things easier for me. And also encourages me. :)
You have so many wonderful things in your list! SO MUCH. It would be pretty difficult for me to come up with so many goals, wow. At least some time. :)
Thank you for your comment! I have a lot of lists in my phone too - some from 2010 even that do not need to be there haha. I have been thinking about how I want to get a small journal to carry around in my purse, and then it could be used for not just lists but sketches or whatever. Like a spontaneous inspiration journal I guess.
DeleteThe first 30 took me a while, but then it got surprisingly easier. You should give it a try :)
By the way -- haha, I like EVERY single song in that playlist. I listen to those bands whenever I need to get things done as well! :) (I don't know what I would do without Spotify)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! That makes me happy - I love meeting people who share similar tastes in music. I just listened to that playlist for the first time last week and there were so many songs I hadn't heard in a long time, it was so great to hear them all again!
DeleteI saw this feature on Jackie's blog and loved it too! Like #854, I want to volunteer again too. Ok, also, I love your gold/brass pendant lamp.. it is seriously epic! May I ask where you got it?
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank so much for your sweet (and hilarious) comment about My new Etsy Shop! You Rock!

Haha thank you Holly!
DeleteThe lamp is from a vintage store in SE Portland called House of Vintage. I had been eyeing it for months and then some friends ended up getting together and buying it for me for my birthday. One of the best gifts ever! :)
I'm a complete list maker too so I understand Amberly! That is one impressive list :) Best of luck with it!

DeleteI did this a few years ago. So interesting to look back and see what you accomplished and what you didn't, and what you even care to accomplish anymore. Great photography in your blog by the way. Beautiful!!
