kELLY wEARSTLER

Lately I've really been into home design and decor. That means day dreaming about what my business card would look like as a sought-after Interior Designer in Los Angeles, deciding I need to save up money for a decent sewing machine, and realizing how badly I want my own place so that I am forced to decorate the whole thing myself. I love my roommates and don't want to bother them with my unique, but admittedly sorta weird-unique, "style" ...

One of my favorite places to find awesome home decor

Interior design has been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. In the sixth grade we were told to write a descriptive paper about our bedroom, and with immense joy, I remember filling up at least seven pages about my "girlie antique" style room. I drew roses around the paper as a border and I wouldn't be surprised if I actually wrote the thing on parchment paper so it matched the 18th century style I was SO into.... and god, the enthusiasm in my voice as I read it all to the class. I just have to remind myself and let you know...I was in Gifted & Talented... so, yeah.

Well, the obsession with home design and decor is sort of back (and thankfully evolved from my 6th grade preferences) so I wanted to write a quick note about one of the most inspiring artists of the field - Kelly Wearstler. Quite possibly the Queen of the field. While at Powell's Bookstore today I took the time to look for her newest book, Hue, and after I sat down and started looking through it I was so lit up that I felt like my head would explode. Like I had just sucked down six cherry slurpees followed by a giant thing of sour skittles and then licked up every bit of sour powder left in the bottom of the bag. This girl has major talent. And it's the bold, unusual, how-in-the-world-did-she-make-this-work kind of talent that pretty much blows your mind.

As you'll see below, she sums it up best:

  1. Awesome! I'm going to share this with a friend who wants to be an interior designer I think she would like the way this girl decorates. Thanks!
